This course will provide an introduction to issues of transnational law. It will teach students the basic minimum that every lawyer should know about the cross-national dimensions of law in the modern world. It is also intended as a foundation on which those who are interested in further study of the topics covered in the class can later build. The course will cover both the public and private dimensions of transnational law (meaning law that operates across national boundaries). Among the topics to be studied are the law of treaties, customary international law, trade law, human rights law, international environmental law, international criminal law, international tax law, international business transactions, law on the use of force, transnational litigation, and transnational commercial arbitration.

Students who have enrolled in Public International Law may enroll in the course for credit.
