This course offers a survey of the major rules and concepts of federal income taxation. The course will focus on the taxation of individuals, but (time permitting) will also explore some of the tax rules governing non-profit organizations and business entities. Income Tax I is an introductory class which virtually every law student should take, as an understanding of basic tax principles is crucial for any legal practice that deals with business or non-profit concerns. The class presupposes no familiarity with economics or accounting; no math skills beyond basic arithmetic are needed. Students will be graded using be an open-book final exam.

Prerequisites:
Due to delays in contruction; this course will meet in the faculty lounge, room 336 for the first week of the semester.
