Students will become familiar with mediation theory and applicable law and acquire or improve practice skills necessary to effectively participate in a mediation process, whether in the role of mediator or party advocate/representative. Familiarity with the mediation process and well-honed mediation skills have become a necessity for litigators and a significant advantage for business and corporate lawyers, where many of the same skills are required of negotiators and advisors and where mediation and facilitation are now used more frequently in transactions and deal-making situations. The Course Syllabus contains a more extensive course description. Both students with no knowledge or expertise in dispute resolution and those with some exposure to ADR processes and skills are very welcome to take this course. Diversity of background, culture and perspective enriches the experience for all.
