This class will examine subjects in software licensing, including the business of licensing channels, idea/expression dichotomy, software patents, ASP/SAAS business models, open source, taxation and regulation, virtualization and embedded systems, source code escrows, and standards and consortia. It is a practical course that focuses on real-world business concerns with software law. Participation by LLM students is particularly encouraged. Grading will be based on class participation and a short, focused writing assignment. Instructor handouts will include form agreements and supplementary materials.

Prerequisites:
Intellectual Property, Patent Law or Copyright Law.
