Prerequisites: Introduction to Intellectual Property or permission of instructor. No science or engineering background required.
In this course we cover the major aspects of patent law, primarily as applied in the U.S.: Patentability, including novelty, nonobviousness, and enablement; infringement; ownership and licensing; and remedies. The emphasis is on essential legal principles, useful as solid background for non-patent-specialists (who increasingly come into contact with these issues), or as a foundation for a career as a patent lawyer representing inventors before the Patent Office or litigating patent cases. We will draw on a variety of practical and legal materials, especially recent Supreme Court cases
