Firms are increasingly facing antitrust scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions, the two most important being the United States and the European Union. This course will compare antitrust law in the U.S. and the E.U. It will examine each jurisdiction's approach to various kinds of business conduct, including single-firm competitive strategies, joint ventures, and mergers, by analyzing underlying statutes, actual cases, and relevant economic and policy principles. The seminar will meet twice each week for two hours per class, beginning the week of October 12 and running through the end of the semester. There will be no exam but students will be required to write a paper of 15-20 pages. Enrollment is limited to 24
This course will be co-taught by Professor Shelanski and by visiting Professor François Lévêque from Paris.
