This course is designed to introduce students to the use of quantitative methods in law. The course will cover statistical concepts that are important for critically evaluating quantitative methods. This is useful both for those who intend to produce research in Empirical Legal Studies as well as for those who anticipate cross examining expert witnesses presenting testimony that utilizes empirical evidence (including, but not limited to DNA evidence cases, cases filed under the 1964 Civil Rights Act or Reconstructions Acts, labor law cases, securities class actions, cases surrounding environmental justice issues, and antitrust cases, among many examples). Students successfully completing Quantitative Methods will be able to evaluate literature and case law involving quantitative methods and will have the foundation to undertake basic empirical research and pursue courses involving more advanced methods.

This course satisfies the Skills Requirement.
