This introductory course is designed to explore fundamental legal and policy issues in environmental law. The course covers the special challenges environmental problems pose for law and the principal strategies used to address environmental problems, including the common law, command-and-control regulation, market instruments, and information disclosure. Students are introduced to key federal environmental statutes including the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act, as well as to the cross-cutting issues of environmental federalism and environmental enforcement.
