Students who receive permission from the Dean of Students and the Field Placement Director may spend a semester at long-distance judicial externships away from the law school campus and earn up to 10 units doing legal work under the supervision of a judge, law clerk, or staff attorney working for approved judicial chambers, courts, administrative law judges, and other judicially-related work. Students must have their externships approved before they are eligible to receive academic credit. While students are away, they submit timesheets, memos, and reports/forms, as well as maintain contact with the Field Placement Director. Students are directed to: http://www.law.berkeley.edu/179.htm for additional information. Students are required to attend an orientation the semester before they plan to be off campus. Students are urged to contact Sue Schechter, Field Placement Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 510/643-7387 as soon as possible if this an option they are exploring.
