This course explores the jurisdiction of American federal courts, and the manner in which this jurisdiction interacts with federalism and separation of powers. Topics include the constitutional and statutory sources of judicial power; Congressional control of the distribution of judicial power; Supreme Court review of state court decisions; the law applied in civil actions in the federal courts; habeas corpus; and various forms of governmental immunities.
