This is an introductory course on constitutional law. The first part of the course will focus on controversies surrounding judicial power, including methods of interpretation, judicial authority to invalidate unconstitutional statutes or judicial review, and some limits on the exercise of judicial power. The second and third parts of the course will focus on what is generally called the "structure" of the Constitution, separation of powers and federalism. Finally, the fourth part of the course will examine the framework for protecting rights contained in the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses.

Constitutional Law is a required prerequisite for the Death Penalty Clinic and Seminar, Federal Courts, Supreme Court Seminar, and Constitutional Litigation. It is also recommended that students complete Constitutional Law before enrolling in Administrative Law, Legislation, Immigration, Local Government Law, Environmental Justice, Employment Discrimination, Family Law, and Law of Democracy.

This course satisfies the Constitutional Law Requirement.
