The course covers basic concepts in American tort law. Coverage includes intentional torts, business torts, negligence, strict liability, legal duties, proximate course, comparative negligence, assumption of risk and special limits on liability.
Professor Diamond is the author or co-author of Cases and Materials on Torts(Thomson/West); Understanding Torts(Lexis); Criminal Law: Cases and Materials(Lexis) and numerous articles. He received his B.A. at Yale; J.D. at Columbia Law; and Dipl. Crim. at Cambridge University. Prior to teaching, Professor Diamond practiced in the litigation department at the New York law firm of Cravath,Swaine & Moore and served as a law clerk to Judge Thomas P. Griesa of the United States District Court in New York. He is the recipient of a number of teaching awards, including the Northern California Association of Phi Beta Kappa Excellence in Teaching Award and the Rutter Outstanding Teaching Award. Professor Diamond is visiting from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law where he has been elected by the graduating class to give the faculty commencement address on nine occasions.
