Victim Liaison Discusses Work in Death Penalty Cases

What: Boalt Hall’s Death Penalty Clinic presents, “Restorative Justice: Understanding and Working with Victims of Violent Crimes.”
Tammy Krause of Eastern Mennonite University’s Conflict Transformation Program discusses her work as a victim liaison on behalf of defense counsel in death penalty cases.
Ms. Krause has teamed with defense counsel in reaching out to victims’ families in numerous death penalty cases, including U.S. v. Timothy McVeigh. She has lectured and published articles about the principles of restorative justice. Ms. Krause will present “stories of reconciliation,” describing the unique and enduring relationships she has established with members of victims families. She will discuss how defense team can participate in a challenging process that embraces the needs and concerns of their clients and victims’ families.
Ms. Krause’s academic and field work in the area of restorative justice extend beyond capital litigation to assisting victims of violence in countries such as Sudan. In 1999, Ms. Krause received a two-year Soros Justice Fellowship and was recently been named an Ashoka Affiliate to continue her work and research as a victim liaison.
