Professor John Yoo Discusses War on Terrorism

John Yoo will present "An Insider's View of the War on Terrorism," Wednesday, April 24, at 12:30 p.m. in Room 105, Boalt Hall. Yoo is a deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel, which advises the Department of Justice and the White House.

A law professor at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall), Yoo is on leave while he serves in the Bush administration. He will answer questions posed by Boalt Professor Howard Shelanski related to the U.S. government's response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The event, held by the Boalt Hall Federalist Society, a student group, is open to news reporters and the Boalt Hall community but closed to the general public.

Background: John Yoo received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and his law degree from Yale University. He clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from 1994-95 and served as general counsel of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee from 1995-1996. He joined the Boalt Hall faculty in 1993, specializing in international law, constitutional law, foreign relations law, public lawmaking and civil procedure.
