Viacom Could Face Uphill Climb in Suit against YouTube
Viacom’s $1 billion copyright infringement lawsuit against YouTube signals a major escalation of the online technology wars, says Berkeley Law instructor Jason Schultz ’00, acting director of the Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic. "I see this as an evolution of the music file-sharing cases. Where it used to be Goliath suing David, a small peer-to-peer startup company, now it’s one corporate Goliath suing another."

Education Advocate Meghan Corman ’08 Honored by California Bar
Meghan Corman and Angela Hollowell-Fuentes ’08 were among 17 California law students to receive $1,000 to help with the costs of taking the state Bar. As one of the top five recipients, Corman also received a free California BAR/BRI Bar Exam review course valued at more than $3,000. Berkeley Law Debut

This week, Dean Christopher Edley, Jr. announced new naming and graphic standards for the law school. In messages to faculty, staff, students, and alumni, he said the school will:

  • continue using its longtime official name: University of California, Berkeley, School of Law;
  • begin using Berkeley Law as the short form of its official name; and
  • continue using Boalt Hall within the law school “family” because of the affection so many members have for it.

The new Web site banner above initiates the migration to the new graphic identity. Later this year, the school will launch a completely refreshed and redesigned Web site.

For information and resources, visit our identity page. Read the dean's memo to the law school here.
