Commencement Speakers Announced

Bryan Stevenson

Civil rights advocate Bryan Stevenson will be the guest speaker for Boalt's 2007 commencement ceremony on May 12. Stevenson has dedicated his legal career to social and racial justice—founding the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) of Alabama in 1989, a nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to indigent defendants and prisoners.

Professor Bundy '78

Currently executive director of EJI and a professor of clinical law at New York University, he has won national acclaim for his work challenging bias against low-income people and ethnic minorities in the criminal justice system.

Boalt Hall Students Association Class President James Chavez '07 says, "Stevenson is a legend in the field of capital defense representation and a force in the social justice movement. Boalt Hall is privileged to have such an inspirational speaker."

Joining Stevenson at the event will be faculty speaker Stephen Bundy '78, a Boalt professor since 1984. Bundy teaches Civil Procedure and Legal Profession. Says Chavez, "For all of us who have taken a class with beloved Professor Bundy, it is obvious that the man loves to teach."

The 2007 Boalt Hall commencement will begin at 9 a.m. in the Hearst Greek Theater. For more information, visit the commencement website.
