University of Kansas Awards Highest Honor to Professor Frickey
Professor Philip Frickey has been named a 2006 recipient of the Distinguished Service Citation by his alma mater, the University of Kansas (KU). Frickey was recognized for redefining the field of statutory interpretation with Cases and Materials on Legislation: Statutes and the Creation of Public Policy (with Eskridge and Garrett, 3rd ed., 2001). Frickey, who graduated from KU in 1975 with top honors in political science, also was honored for his scholarship in the field of federal Indian law.
The Distinguished Service Citation is KU's highest honor. It pays tribute to those who have benefited humanity though their careers and civic involvement. A Boalt faculty member since 2000, Frickey serves as the Alexander F. and May T. Morrison Professor of Law. He earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1978 and went on to clerk for Judge John Minor Wisdom of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
