Discover Cal Lecture Features Jesse Choper on Supreme Court Constitutional law scholar and Earl Warren Professor of Law Jesse Choper will examine the changing nature of the U.S. Supreme Court at the next Discover Cal lecture in Southern California. In the wake of President Bush’s successful nominations of John G. Roberts, Jr., and Samuel A. Alito, Jr., to replace Chief Justice William Rehnquist and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Choper will discuss whether the new Roberts court will be more liberal or conservative than its predecessor.
Gordon Silverstein, UC Berkeley assistant professor of political science, will join the presentation and explore how these changes are expected to affect issues ranging from abortion and property rights to war powers, federalism and political participation. The lecture “New Directions for a New Supreme Court?” will take place on Monday, April 10, in Costa Mesa, California and on Tuesday, April 11, in Los Angeles.
