Journalist Jess Bravin '97 Wins Jacobs Fellowship Jess Bravin '97 has been named the newest John Jacobs Fellow at UC Berkeley's Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS). Bravin will apply the fellowship to work on a book examining the Bush Administration's use of military justice for terrorism suspects.
Bravin, who covers the U.S. Supreme Court and major legal issues for TheWall Street Journal, has previously worked for the San Francisco Chronicle and the Los Angeles Times, and is the author of Squeaky: The Life and Times of Lynette Alice Fromme (St. Martin's Press, 1997). He is a graduate of Harvard University, and while at Boalt, served as the student member of the Regents of the University of California.
Named in memory of John Jacobs, the late political editor and columnist of the McClatchy Newspapers, the fellowship is a joint program of IGS and the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. It is designed to provide support for journalists who take time off to write a scholarly book about politics or public affairs.
