Asian-American Alums Convene for Cultural Discourse at Chapter Event
On November 17, More than 60 Boalt alumni gathered in San Francisco to hear Professor Leti Volpp give a talk on "The Excesses of Culture: On Asian American Citizenship and Identity," with an introduction by Professor Goodwin Liu. Hosted by Charlene (Chuck) Shimada '79, the first-of-its-kind chapter event brought Asian-American alumni together to explore how the idea that Asian Americans have an excessive attachment to culture has a profound impact on positioning the Asian American outside the center of what is considered the American citizen.
