Geoffrey Stone to Present Keynote Address at Jorde Symposium
University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone will deliver the keynote address for the 2004 Brennan Center for Justice Thomas M. Jorde Symposium. His lecture, “Free Speech in the Age of McCarthy: A Cautionary Tale,” will explore what happened to the United States in the era of McCarthyism and what lessons can be learned for the present. UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh and University of Minnesota law professor Oren Gross will offer commentary. Stone specializes in constitutional law, civil procedure, evidence and criminal procedure. He served as dean of University of Chicago Law School from 1987 to 1983, and as provost of the University of Chicago from 1993 to 2002.
The Jorde Symposium, launched by a gift from Boalt Professor Emeritus Thomas Jorde in 1996, is sponsored in conjunction with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.
