2004 Stories

Robert Berring Jr. to Receive 2004 Citation Award

The Boalt Hall Alumni Association (BHAA) is honoring Dean Robert Berring Jr. '74 with this year's Citation Award. The highest honor the BHAA can bestow, the award recognizes an alumnus whose exceptional professional accomplishments and public service activities have raised the standard for the legal profession. The award will be presented at a gala dinner held in the Bay Area on May 7.

Berring has served as Boalt's interim dean since January 2003. He joined the Boalt faculty in 1982 and is dedicated to the teaching mission of the law school. Berring's normally full course load includes Advanced Legal Research-a course he developed which is taken by more than half of all Boalt students. He was awarded UC Berkeley's Distinguished Teaching Award in 1987. He also directs the McEnerney Law Library and, in 2003, he won the Frederick Hicks Award for his contributions to law librarianship.

All Boalt alumni are invited to attend the Citation Award Dinner. For more information and to register online, please contact alumni relations at 510-642-2591 or spersson@law.berkeley.edu.
