Celebrity Roast Honors Frank Mankiewicz '55
Frank Mankiewicz '55, the former press secretary to the late Sen. Robert Kennedy, noted Democratic strategist and past president of NPR, was roasted and toasted on December 9 at a celebrity-studded gala in Washington, D.C. NPR's Cokie Roberts was the master of ceremonies at the event, which establishes a scholarship in Mankiewicz' name at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. Among the luminaries who spoke were Sen. Ted Kennedy, former Sen. George McGovern, radio host Bob Edwards, ABC News correspondent Sam Donaldson and columnist Ellen Goodman.
Now vice chairman at the Hill & Knowlton public relations firm in Washington, D.C., Mankiewicz received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia in 1948 before earning his law degree from Boalt Hall. Honoring his longtime commitment to politics and journalism, his friends and colleagues are establishing the Frank Mankiewicz Scholarship in Politics and Journalism for students at Columbia.
