State Bar Honors Boalt Alumni with Pro Bono Service Awards
The State Bar of California honored Robert Raven ’52 and Angela Bradstreet ’80 (LL.M.) with annual service awards at its 76th annual meeting in Anaheim on Saturday, September 6.
Raven received the 2003 State Bar of California’s Bernard E. Witkin Medal, which is given annually to “the legal giants among us who have altered the landscape of California jurisprudence.” Raven practiced law for over four decades with Morrison & Foerster, where he was an anti-trust expert and litigator. He was also known as a champion of women and minority newcomers to the profession of law and fought for greater access to justice for the poor. During his career, Raven served as president of the Bar Association of San Francisco, the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association. He is now retired from the practice of law.
Bradstreet was awarded the second annual Diversity Award honoring an individual attorney for her exemplary contributions and significant impact on furthering diversity in the legal profession. A partner with the San Francisco office of Carrol, Burdick & McDonough, Bradstreet has campaigned to eliminate the glass ceiling for women lawyers and to bar judges from belonging to organizations that discriminate against gays and lesbians. She served as president of California Women Lawyers and the Bar Association of San Francisco, and has devoted her career to increasing opportunities for women and minorities.
