New Graduates Honored at Commencement Ceremony
More than 300 graduating students participated in Boalt Hall’s 2003 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 24, in the Hearst Greek Theatre. Interim Dean Robert C. Berring Jr. ’74 gave the faculty address, and honored guest speaker Barbara Ehrenreich delivered a politically charged speech. Ehrenreich is a political essayist, columnist and author of several books, including Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America and Blood Rites: Origins and History of the Passions of War. Student speakers included Andrea Ottolia, and the class of 2003 Co-Presidents Nicole Ozer and Raffi Zerounian.

Dean Berring presented several student awards during the ceremony, including the Thelen, Marrin prizes for Academic Achievement and Law Journal Writing, awarded to David Driver and Victor Rodriguez respectively. Stephanie Lucero and Monique Morales both received the Francine Diaz Memorial Award and Laura Quilter was awarded the Student Service Award.
