Alumni Association Hosts 2003 Citation Award Dinner
The Boalt Hall Alumni Association (BHAA) will host the 2003 Citation Award Dinner on Friday, May 2. This year's Citation Award winners, Elizabeth Cabraser '78 and Henry Ramsey Jr. '63 will be honored at the dinner. Professor Herma Hill Kay will also receive an award.

Cabraser is partner at Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, which she formed in 1978 with Robert Lieff. In September 2002 she was named in California Daily Journal's list of Top 100 Lawyers for the fourth time in her career. In May she received the 2002 Distinguished Jurisprudence Award from the Anti-Defamation League for her work on humanitarian issues. She has served Boalt as an adjunct professor, BHAA board member and as the primary donor for the Herma Hill Kay Distinguished Professorship chair.

Ramsey is a former Berkeley city councilman, Contra Costa prosecutor and Boalt professor. He retired from the Alameda County bench in 1991 to become dean of Howard University School of Law, where he served until his retirement in 1996. He also founded the Mentor Diversion Program, which pairs nonviolent defendants with mentors to complete GED programs, job training and drug testing in order to dismiss charges. In 2000 he was honored with the American Bar Association's Spirit of Excellence award for his work in promoting racial and ethnic diversity in the profession.

At the Citation Award Dinner, the BHAA will also present its first Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award to Herma Hill Kay. Kay joined the Boalt faculty in 1960 and received the UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award in 1962. She co-authored the state's much-copied no-fault divorce act, which became law in 1970. In 1992 she became the first woman to serve as dean of Boalt. After stepping down in 2000, she returned to teaching and was honored by the Boalt Hall Women's Association, which created the Herma Hill Kay Fellowship, a fund that supports legal work on behalf of women.

All Boalt alumni are invited to attend the Citation Award Dinner. For more information and to register online, please go to the alumni section of the website.
