Tiffani Williams receives Thelen Reid & Priest Summer Fellowship
Tiffani Williams '04 is the recipient of the fourth annual Thelen Reid & Priest Summer Fellowship. Awarded by the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC), the fellowship allows an outstanding Boalt student to work under the close supervision of an EBCLC staff attorney in one of the center's four practice areas. Candidates for the fellowship are evaluated based on their demonstrated commitment to serving low-income, minority and underrepresented individuals and groups, as well as academic excellence and employment experience.
This summer Williams will work in EBCLC's HIV/AIDS Law Project, providing a wide range of legal services to low-income people with HIV. She will also coordinate EBCLC's participation in the San Francisco AIDS Walk and work in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties' HIV/AIDS Planning Council on important health policy issues. "Working at EBCLC this summer will guarantee that my first legal experience is a meaningful one because I will be afforded the opportunity to serve those communities that are most in need of legal assistance," says Williams.
Williams graduated with a B.S. in Biology from American University in 1999 and received a Masters in Public Health from Yale University in 2001. Prior to coming to Boalt, she worked on HIV/AIDS issues in numerous positions, beginning as a fellow at the National Institutes of Health in 1994. Most recently she was a researcher at the HIV/AIDS Bureau in the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. At Boalt, Williams is a member of Law Students of African Descent, the Healthcare Law Society, and the African-American Law and Policy Report.
