Bernida Reagan to Serve as Director of Social Responsibility for Port of Oakland
Bernida M. Reagan, the executive director of the East Bay Community Law Center, has accepted a new position as the director of social responsibility for the Port of Oakland. She will leave the EBCLC in February to begin her new job.
Reagan has led the EBCLC since its inception in 1988. The center provides legal services to the low-income community in the areas of housing, employment and income support, HIV/AIDS law, and economic development. It also gives law students hands-on training in addressing the needs of indigent communities. Under Reagan's guidance it has been recognized as a leading center for clinical education.
Reagan is the co-recipient of the 2002 William Pincus Award for Outstanding Contributions to Legal Education. She was also recently nominated as one of the Top Ten Most Influential African Americans in the Bay Area by CityFlight Newsmagazine. Reagan has practiced public interest law for 20 years. The Boalt community will miss her superb and dedicated leadership and wishes her well in her new endeavor.
