John Davies Heads Committee Conducting Search for New UC President
Boalt Hall alumnus John Davies '62 has been selected to chair the nine-member special committee that will conduct a nationwide search for a new University of California president. Davies has a long history of serving the law school and the university. He has sat on the UC Board of Regents since 1992, and was chairman from 1998-2000. He also sits on the Boalt Hall Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is of counsel with the firm Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble & Mallory in San Diego.
The special committee will work with the Academic Council and student, staff and alumni advisory committees to screen candidates for the UC president position. The person they select will replace outgoing President Richard Atkinson, who will retire on October 1, 2003.
