Chancellor Honors EBCLC as a Notable University-Community Partnership
For the second year in a row, UC Chancellor Robert Berdahl has recognized the East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) as a notable University-Community Partnership Project. This award, which was presented at a reception on September 23, honors the joint efforts of EBCLC and UC's Institute of Urban and Regional Development to serve the needs of the Seventh Street McClymonds Corridor Neighborhood Improvement Initiative in West Oakland.
Founded in 1988 by Boalt Hall students, EBCLC provides hands-on training to law students through the clinical education program. Since its founding, staff attorneys have supervised hundreds of law students, and together they have handled more than 15,000 legal matters for the community.
The University and Community Partnership Awards were established in 2000 by the chancellor and his wife to honor collaborations between the campus and the community that have made significant contributions to local residents.
