Boalt Hall Alumnus Selected to Chair U.N. Sub-Commission
Berkeley School of Law graduate David Weissbrodt '69, has been elected to serve as chairperson of the United Nations Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. He is the first U.S. citizen to head a U.N. human rights body since Eleanor Roosevelt.
The U.N. Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights is comprised of 26 members from all over the world. It develops human rights legal standards and engages in studies about path-breaking subjects.
Weissbrodt, the Fredrikson & Byron Professor of Law at the University of Minnesota Law School, has been a member of the Sub-Commission since April 1996. He regularly teaches and writes about international human rights law and other subjects.
