Assemblyman Simitian Visits Samuelson Clinic
On December 14, California Assemblyman Joe Simitian ’77, D-Palo Alto, visited the UC Berkeley School of Law and discussed consumer privacy issues with Deirdre Mulligan, director of the Samuelson Law, Technology, and Public Policy Clinic. Simitian, who received his J.D. degree from the law school, chairs the Assembly select committee on privacy. During a wide-ranging discussion, Simitian and Mulligan covered topics such as political activity on the Internet, the enforceability of companies' privacy statements, the confidentiality of public records, and the implementation of the Patriot Act.

Assemblyman Simitian expressed strong interest in the work of the Samuelson Clinic and said he wants to continue collaborating with the law school as he further explores privacy issues.
