Section V.A.3. Introduction, International Agreements

The Juris International collection of trade treaties is now searchable .  (See page 253.)

WorldTradeLaw.net still provides some links to tariff schedules, but some of those links are outdated.  (See page 253.)

Section V.A.4.b. Introduction, Other Trade Research Resources, Current Awareness

To clarify the status of the Inter-American Trade Report, researchers should note that the publication ceased in 2005; only archived issues are available on the Web site. (See page 254, note 195.)

The WTO’s Focus newsletter was discontinued in 2007.  WTO news is available as an RSS feed or at the Web site.  (See page 254.).

Section V.A.5. Introduction, Foreign Investment

An updated introduction to foreign investment law is M. Sornarajah, The International Law on Foreign Investment (3rd ed. 2010). (See pages 254-55.)

Section V.A.5.b. Introduction, Foreign Investment, Finding National Laws on Foreign Investment

Numerous English translations of foreign investment laws are reprinted in the looseleaf set Investment Laws of the World (1972- ), now published by Oxford University Press.  Another useful source for foreign investment laws is the subscription database RIA Checkpoint.  (See page 256.)

The electronic version of Foreign Law Guide is now the only version available.  (See page 256.)

Section V.A.5.c. Introduction, Foreign Investment, Finding Arbitration Awards

ICSID cases are now searchable. Unfortunately, no full-text search is available; the search fields are limited to party names and a few other criteria.  (See page 256.)

The Oxford Reports on International Law subscription database includes Oxford Reports on International Investment Claims.

Section V.A.5.d. Introduction, Foreign Investment, Other Resources for Foreign Investment Research

Christoph Schreuer’s commentary on the ICSID convention has gone into a second edition:  Christoph H. Schreuer et al., The ICSID convention: A Commentary (2d ed. 2009).  A recent comprehensive work on BITs is Kenneth J. Vandevelde, Bilateral Investment Treaties: History, Policy, and Interpretation (2010).  Another useful work with a focus on investment treaty arbitration is Zachary Douglas, The International Law of Investment Claims (2009).  (See page 257.)

The UN continues to publish studies on international investment issues; to find these, search the Library of Congress subject headings Investments, Foreign, and the author United Nations.  (See page 257.)

Section V.B.3. GATT/WTO System, Starting Points for WTO Research

A more recent introduction to WTO law is Ralph H. Folsom et al., International Trade and Economic Relations in a Nutshell (St. Paul, MN: Thomson/West, 4th ed. 2009).  (See page 259.)

Section V.B.4. GATT/WTO System, Sources for Dispute Resolution Documents

TradeLawGuide, a subscription database available at some libraries, offers access to full-text WTO jurisprudence, searchable in several ways.  (See page 261-62.)

Section V.B.4.b. GATT/WTO System, Sources for Dispute Resolution Documents, Indexes and Digests

A second print volume of the WTO Analytical Index covers the period from 1995-2006; WTO Analytical Index: Guide to WTO Law and Practice (2007). (See page 262 and note 233.)

TradeLawGuide also indexes WTO jurisprudence by key words and phrases.  (See page 263.)  A feature that TradeLawGuide offers that WorldTradeLaw.net does not is a citator.  You can see if a particular WTO panel or Appellate Body decision has been cited in later decisions.

The Handbook of WTO/GATT Dispute Settlement has not been updated since 2009.  (See page 263.)

TradeLawGuide also enables searches by keywords.  (See page 263.)

Section V.C.1. North American Free Trade Agreement, Introduction

A good recent analysis of NAFTA is Leslie Alan Glick, Understanding the North American Free Trade Agreement:  Legal and Business Consequences of NAFTA (3d ed.  2010). (See page 266.)

Ralph H. Folsom et al., International Trade and Economic Relations in a Nutshell (St. Paul, MN: Thomson/West, 4th ed. 2009) replaces the earlier Nutshell. (See page 266.)

Section V.C.2. North American Free Trade Agreement, Agreements

Mexico-United States: Agreement Concerning the Establishment of a Border Environment Cooperation Commission and a North American Development Bank is hard to find on the Internet, and is most easily found at 32 I.L.M. 1545.  (See page 267.)
