Print Balance
Each student is granted $125 of free printing for the academic year, which translates to approximately 1000-1250 pages of free printing. Printing is charged at a rate of $0.13/single-sided black-and-white page, $0.20/double-sided black-and-white page, and $0.75/color-printed page. Students are responsible for paying for any printing they do beyond the $125 allotment. You can check your print balance by logging on to any of the Print Release Stations in the printing/scanning rooms or in the West Basement (Student Center). You can also check your balance by logging into the Cal1Card website, where you can also deposit more money into your account if you are running low.
If you experience any problems while printing in the labs, consult a lab tech. You should think carefully before printing, as you will be charged for all print jobs. Pay particular attention to printing from Lexis and Westlaw. Both of these online services have their own standalone printers in the labs and you should route your Lexis and Westlaw print jobs to these printers. Any Lexis or Westlaw print jobs routed to the lab's own network printers will be charged against your account.
If your document is ruined in some way by the printer or computer (a printer jam, toner has run out, etc.), you may get the ruined pages credited back to your print account, or, in some cases, reprinted. Simply present the document to the lab tech, explain the problem and fill out a "Printing Credit Form". Once submitted, the request will be considered and processed and the dollar amount will be added back to your print balance. This credited amount cannot be used as funding for other Cal1Card merchants. Please note that this may not happen immediately. If you have a particularly large request, or feel that your request was not processed, please see Thomas Lee in room LL121 for assistance. Credits will not be considered for non-computer/printer-related errors. Any printing done remotely from your laptop to the networked printers will be charged against your allotted $125 of free printing. You will be notified of the cost of the print job before you submit the job.
Do I have to pay to print?
As a student at Berkeley Law, you will receive $125 of free printing for the academic year (two semesters + summer). Some students use all of their credited printing in the first semester, and will need to add to their balance by visiting the Cal1Card website, printing will still be charged at the same rate of 13 cents for single-sided black-and-white print-outs, 20 cents for each double-sided page, and 75 cents for color.
How do I know what my print balance is?
