Connecting to Boalt Remotely & Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5

These instructions are for users installing the VPN on Mac computers running Tiger or Leopard (OS X 10.4 or 10.5). You can check your version of OS X by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu.

Users experiencing difficulty with the VPN software should email studentcomputing@law.berkeley.edu.

Instructions for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Users

  1. Non-Intel Macs: Download and install this Mac VPN client. It is preconfigured for connecting to law school resources.
Intel-based Macs: Download the latest appropriate Cisco VPN client (currently 4.9.01.0080) from software.berkeley.edu and install it.
  2. Download and install CalNet Kerberos Auth 5.1 for Mac from software.berkeley.edu.
  3. Download and install this patch file.
  4. Run the Cisco VPN client. If you do not see a UCB-LAW or other LAW profile listed among the connection entries, you will need to download this configuration file and import it using the Import button.
  5. Connect to the LAW profile. Log into the VPN with your CalNet ID and Passphrase.
  6. Request a new ticket from the Kerberos program with your CalNet ID and Passphrase. Change the domain (Realm field) so that it says CAMPUS.BERKELEY.EDU.
  7. Once you are connected to the VPN and have a Kerberos ticket, you will be able to connect to the law school file servers by going to the Go menu in Finder and selecting the Connect to Server option.
    • To connect to Groucho use cifs://groucho.law.berkeley.edu/ . Choose the Groups to access your student group or journal directory.
    • To connect to Milbarge use cifs://milbarge.law.berkeley.edu/ . Choose the Clinicals share to access your clinic files.
    • To connect to Zeb use cifs://zeb.law.berkeley.edu/ . Choose Users or Groups to access either your user directory or your group directory.
