About the Computer Labs

The labs are located at the foot of the stairwell leading down from the lobby of the library. There are 47 Windows computers and 1 Macintosh computer divided between two computer labs: M130 and M128.

The Windows computers are PCs with LCD monitors, Windows XP, and CDROM drives. The Mac has an LCD monitor and CDROM drive and runs Mac OSX. A number of lab computers in each of the rooms are set up with CDRW/DVDRW capability. USB ports are available on the front of most computers and on the side of most monitors to accomodate USB keys. Our two multimedia machines, located in M130, provide multimedia capabilities with access to a scanner and a color laser printer. Each lab has access to multiple high-speed HP LaserJet printers.

Incoming students participate in a mandatory orientation to become familiarized with lab facilities and policies. In that orientation, students receive a lab handbook. The Fall 2007 edition is available here. Continuing students may review new policies and services in the 2007 Lab Update.

Use of the computer labs is for enrolled Boalt students only. Other UCB students and the general public may use the computers in the public areas of the library for research purposes. Printing and copy services from these public computers are available through the Canon public printer and the copy center for a fee.
