Real World ResearchReal World Research is a program of 45 minute classes on specialized topics of research presented by the Law Library throughout the academic year. February 21 — Copyright Research
With the advent and increasing sophistication of digital technologies, copyright has become a rapidly evolving area of business, law, and policy. Scholars and practitioners devote entire blogs to its nuances. New quandaries emerge...and old ones remain. This session will provide tips and tools for researching copyright issues such as orphan works, legislative history, and keeping abreast of new developments. (Handout: PowerPoint.) Location: Room 123
March 7 — Bluebooking in Practice
Whether you've never used the Bluebook, used it only for journal-style citations, or just want to throw a few rotten tomatoes at one of the former editors, this session will help you prepare for writing assignments in the world outside legal academia. I-Wei Wang — Boalt reference librarian and one of the editors of the Bluebook (16th ed.) — will provide a crash course on using A Uniform System of Citation/ (the Bluebook, 18th ed.) to format citations for legal memoranda and briefs. March 14 — California Practice Materials
Learn from an expert: Come hear Linda Spath, librarian at Nixon Peabody LLP, at this special presentation. Prepare for working at a California law firm this summer by attending this overview of the most frequently used California print and electronic resources. April 11 — Records and Briefs
Over time, more and more court records are appearing on LEXIS, WESTLAW and PACER. This session will provide an overview of the content available from these online providers and tips on finding the documents you want. Location: Room 145 |
