Policy for Transfer Students

Can transfer students join the California Law Review(CLR)?

Yes, transfer students are encouraged to join CLR. For more information on tranfer membership stop by our offices, which can be found on the 5th Floor of Simon Hall.

How do transfer students become members of CLR?

Transfer students engage in a write-on competition that takes place in late August and early Setpember. The competition has three components: a casenote that analyzes a recent court decision (worth 60%), a bluebook editing packet (worth 20%), and a personal statement (worth 20%). Students will have 12 days to complete the competition packet.

Is the transfer write-on competition similar to the regular write-on competition?

The transfer write-on competition is identical to the write-on competition that regular Boalt 2Ls participate in following the completion of their first year of law school.

What are the 2L requirements for transfer members of the CLR?

Transfers are expected to perform the same duties as other 2L members of CLR. However, transfer members of CLR have reduced packet requirements, because transfer members begin later than other members of CLR.

What if I have a disability that affects my ability to participate in the write-on?

For answers to any questions concerning our policy on disabilities please contact the Coordinator of Student Programs, Holly Parrish. (This is to preserve your anonymity.)
