This year's Brennan Center Jorde Symposium focuses on the novel
strategy for campaign finance reform proposed by Professors
Bruce Ackerman and Ian Ayres in their recent book Voting
with Dollars: A New Paradigm for Campaign Finance. Professor
Ackerman delivered the Jorde Lecture on Voting with Dollars
at Yale Law School on November 27, 2001, with commentaries by
Professors Richard Briffault of Columbia and John Ferejohn of
Stanford. The second performance of Professor Ackerman's lecture
took place at Boalt Hall on March 6, 2002, with commentaries
by Professors Pamela Karlan of Stanford and David Strauss of
Chicago. This issue publishes these commentaries, along with
a rejoinder by Professors Ackerman and Ayres.
The Brennan Center Jorde Symposium Lectures are sponsored by
the Brennan Center for Justice at N.Y.U. School of Law and endowed
by Professor Thomas Jorde of U.C. Berkeley. The Brennan Center
for Justice is devoted to discourse and action on issues of
justice central to the jurisprudence of Justice William J. Brennan
Jr. and was dedicated by Justice Brennan's law clerks, family,
friends, and admirers as a living monument to a legendary figure
of humanity and justice. The California Law Review thanks the
Brennan Center and Professor Jorde for their support in bringing
this year's symposium to our pages.
