How to Submit

The editors of the Berkeley Journal of International Law invite submissions of manuscripts on issues relating to public and private international law, and comparative law. Manuscripts will be accepted with the understanding that their content is unpublished previously. If any part of a paper has already been published, or is to be published elsewhere, the author must include this information at the time of submission.

For All Submissions Please Provide:

- A current CV
- An abstract of the article
- All contact information for the author(s), including email and phone
- Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (Columbia Law Review Ass'n et al. eds., 18th ed. 2005).
- Student authors should consult the directions below.

Email Submissions

The most cost-effective and efficient way that an author can submit his or her article to us is by e-mail at bjilsubmissions@gmail.com. In addition to the article, the author should e-mail the committee his or her current CV and an abstract of the article. Please include all contact information for the author(s), including email and phone. Citations should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (Columbia Law Review Ass'n et al. eds., 18th ed. 2005). Student authors should consult the directions below.

Paper Submissions

We strongly discourage authors from submitting their articles in paper form (please e-mail your manuscript instead). Submitted paper manuscripts will not be returned. One copy of the manuscript should be submitted, double-spaced with wide margins. Please include the full name of the author(s), together with relevant academic and professional affiliations.

Book Reviews

Review Process

We endeavor to review every submission in a thorough and timely fashion. Unfortunately, due to the significant volume of submissions we receive, and our need to review each article carefuly, this process can take some time. If you have submitted a paper and have received other offers please contact our submissions editors immediately at bjilsubmissions@gmail.com and we will be happy to expedite review of your piece. Please do not hesitate to contact us at this address with any questions or concerns you have regarding your submission.

Student Papers: Non-Boalt Students

The Berkeley Journal of International Law does consider student written papers for publication in the Journal. We will only accept papers written while the student was in a law or other advanced degree program. Graduating law students may submitt papers up to three months after graduation. Please note that we publish non-Boalt sutdent papers only very rarely as they compete alongside pieces submitted by professional lawyers and academics. You may feel free to accompany your submission with letters of support from advising faculty.

Student Papers: Boalt Students

BJIL gladly accepts papers written by Boalt students. We endeavor to review each Boalt student submission anonymously. To facilitate this process we have special submission procedures for Boalt students. Please submit your papers in Microsoft Word or PDF format to bjil@law.berkeley.edu. Please entitle the submitted file with your paper title and remove all identifying information from the document. Place the phrase "Boalt Student Submission: [your title here]" in the subject heading of the email, and include your complete contact information in the body of the message.
