Conference to Honor the Work of Harry N. Scheiber

Over the past four decades, Harry Scheiber’s publications, teaching and mentorship have helped shape and enrich many of the leading sub-fields of U.S. history and of socio-legal studies. A leading U.S. legal historian of his generation, Scheiber pioneered research at the intersection of legal history and economic history, and illuminated such diverse subject-matter areas as the history of civil liberties and public rights, and the history of natural resources and the environment. He also has contributed to topics beyond U.S. legal history, including influential studies of modern oceans law and policy and comparative treatments of federalism.

The conference scheduled for September 15, 2006, will showcase current research in the many fields in which Harry Scheiber has proved such a prominent contributor, through original presentations by former students, collaborators and current colleagues. The participation by overseas scholars will serve to reinforce the international reach of Scheiber’s scholarly impact.

Conference will be held at the U.C. Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law on September 15, 2006
