Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition
The Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, which is sponsored by the Brand Names Education Foundation, focuses on a current issue in trademark and unfair competition law. Students try out in the fall semester for selection to membership on one of the two or three teams that represent the law school in the regional competition, held in Chicago during the spring semester. The teams are each required to prepare an appellate brief and to orally argue the case at the regional competition, for which each student will be awarded two hours of academic credit.
The Competition was named for the late Saul Lefkowitz, whose distinguished career was dedicated to the development of trademark law and practice. Mr. Lefkowitz served in the United States Patent and Trademark Office for more than 30 years, including tenure on the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board from its inception and as Chairman from 1975-1981. He is most particularly and fondly remembered as a mentor to young practitioners.

The John Marshall Law School Moot Court Competition in Information Technology and Privacy Law
Established in 1981, the Moot Court Competition in Information Technology & Privacy Law has become one of the largest and most highly respected of all international moot courts. Students from law schools throughout the country and from outside the U.S. gather at John Marshall each year to brief and argue challenging and unresolved issues of technology law. Faculty and students participate in the development of each year's problem, and students from John Marshall's Moot Court Executive Board serve as bailiffs and assist with coordination of the competition.
The moot court competition is honored with the participation of prominent state supreme court justices, federal district and appellate judges, and distinguished law professors and practitioners, who score and critique each round of the competition. The winning briefs are published in The Journal of Computer & Information Law.
The competition, hosted by the Center for Information Technology & Privacy Law, is funded by an endowment from the estate of Carl W. Carlson, a 1933 alumnus of The John Marshall Law School.

The fourth competition, in 1987, marked the beginning of BMI's involvement and co-sponsorship of the competition. Since these early beginnings the competition has grown in both involvement and stature, attracting some of the brightest legal minds from law schools across the country. In addition, the competition has drawn top judges and lawyers to offer their insight to the competitors.
