Kevin Bales, speaking on his new book, "Disposable People: Modern Slavery
in the Global Economy." 5:00 p.m. in Room 140. Sponsored by the Human Rights
Clinic and Human Rights Center.
Prof. Bales is the leading expert on the field of contemporary slavery and trafficking and he has done a series of case studies regarding forced labor in Africa, Asia and South America.

Vitaly Naumkin, Visiting Professor of Political Science, speaking on "The
Iraqi Crisis: A Russian Perspective." Noon in 223 Moses Hall, co-sponsored
by the Institute for International Studies and the Berkeley Program in Soviet
and Post-Soviet Studies. This is an invitation only event, interested students
should speak with Professor Caron about attending.
Prof. Naumkin is president of the Moscow think-tank, International Center for Strategic and Political Studies, and head of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences. This semester, Dr. Naumkin is a visiting professor in the UC Berkeley Department of Political Science, where he is teaching a course entitled, "Islam and Politics in the Former Soviet Union."
