Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Apply? (and Other Admission Questions)
For general questions and detailed instructions concerning Boalt's LL.M. program, I refer you to the Law School's site which you may visit by clicking here: Official Site with information About Admission to Boalt's LL.M. and J.S.D. Program
Specific questions should be directed to the program administrator, I am not the Director of the LL.M. Program. Please direct specific questions to the administrator, Professor John C. Yoo.
Why should I go to Berkeley as opposed to .... ?
Are you serious? The only reason to not join Berkeley is an overwhelming offer of financial support elsewhere that you need.
I am in! What advice do you have?
For students (particularly those from abroad) beginning their studies, I recommend the following source as its bears on your particular concerns:
Matthew Edwards, Teaching Foreign LL.M. Students About U.S. Legal Scholarship, 51 Journal of Legal Education 520-532(2001).
Will you be in residence next year?
I will be in residence for the 2005 - 2006 academic year and am available to serve as an advisor during that time.
Do you serve as a J.S.D. advisor?
You should know that it is relatively rare that students are accepted into the J.S.D. program. This circumstance reflects the intensity and length of the Faculty-J.S.D. candidate relationship. In my case, I agree to serve as a J.S. D. Advisor only after I have worked with the candidate through, for example, a year in the LL.M. Program Even then, admission is not frequent.
