Lesson 1.1: Creating and Viewing Your New Page

Open Up Dreamweaver

Click on Start, go to Programs, find the Macromedia folder, and click on the Dreamweaver icon to open up Dreamweaver.

Starting Out

Once you open Dreamweaver, your window should look something like this:

Adding Text

To add text to your new page, simply click in the window and start typing just as you would in a word processor.

(The next lesson will show you how to change the size, color, font, etc. of your text.)

Save Your Page

To save your page:

• Click on File to Save As.

• Choose the folder you wish you save your web files in. Be sure to save the first/main file of your website as index.html. This will be the first page that your viewers see when they go visit your web page. (Note: Your other pages can be named almost anything you choose, excluding spaces and certain symbols and as long as they retain the .html extension.) Click save.

View Your Page on the Web

To view your page online, you will first need to upload it to a web server. Many ISPs (Internet Service Providers), such as AOL and Earthlink, provide web hosting services for their customers. Please contact your ISP for information on how to get your web pages online. Once you upload your pages and find out what your URL is, you can visit your pages online.
