How To Apply

The 5-Step Plan: How to apply for a Field Placement or Judicial Externship

  • Download and read the Policies, Rules and Restrictions handout.
  • Review descriptions of each placement, as well as student evaluations of placements and judicial externships online
  • Discuss your plans with the Field Placement Coordinator, Sue Schechter, in 391 Simon Hall, by phone (510-643-7387) or email (sschechter@law.berkeley.edu)
  • Contact and/or submit a resume and cover letter (and, in many cases, a transcript, references, and writing sample) directly to the field placement supervising attorney or judge in order to be considered for a position.
  • Download, fill out and submit a Student Application to the Field Placement Assistant.
  • Once the application is approved by the Field Placement Coordinator, you will be given the course control number to enroll through TeleBears.
