Mara Hickey grew up in Oakland, California, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1998, with honors in Psychology. She became a licensed Private Investigator in 2006. She comes to the Death Penalty Clinic from the Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD), where she worked since 2002. At OSPD, she gained extensive experience working on all aspects of death penalty habeas corpus petitions with attorneys, experts, and investigators.
