The sea transport of nuclear material and radioactive waste as part of the nuclear fuel cycle has caused concern on the part of some coastal states. Some argue, for example, that they have a right to prior notification before radioactive waste shipments pass through their exclusive economic zones.

Documents highlighted here include the 1980 Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the 1990 Code of Practice on Transboundary Movement of Radioactive Waste.
