By 2006, Abhyanker was a Founder, CEO and early investor of Fatdoor.com, which raised venture capital financing in 2007 from leading Silicon Valley
Abhyanker started his professional career as an electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation and Hewlett Packard, specializing in ASIC design for hi-speed communication technologies and reverse logistics. Later, he worked as a
Director of Supply Chain and at Juniper Networks, Inc.

Robert Barr
Robert Barr is the Executive Director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology. Formerly, he was Vice President for intellectual property and worldwide patent counsel for Cisco Systems in San Jose, California, where he was responsible for all patent prosecution, licensing and litigation.
Barr has taught at University of California, Berkeley School of Law and at Hastings College of the Law, where he was an adjunct professor of patent law from 1994 to 1999.
A frequent speaker on patent reform, Barr has testified twice at the Federal Trade Commission hearings on Competition and Intellectual Property Law and Policy in the Knowledge-Based Economy. He was named by the Daily Journal as one of the top 25 intellectual property lawyers in California in 2003, and as one of the top 10 in-house intellectual property lawyers in 2004. |

Connie Brenton
Connie Brenton is a Director in the Products and Technology Law Group at Sun Microsystems, Inc. where she supports Sun's Outsourcing, Real Estate and Sourcing activities. Prior to joining Sun, Brenton worked at StorageTek, managing an organization of engineers and contract managers in the tape and disk drive area. Brenton was a founding member, and twice elected president of the StorageTek Women’s alliance. Prior to joining StorageTek, She was in private practice with fourteen years of civil litigation experience. Brenton also has a strong business and entrepreneurial background. She has started a number of businesses including a restaurant, a printing business and an art gallery.
Brenton has a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She obtained her JD degree from the University of Denver and recently completed her MBA from Regis University. |

Bart Eppenauer
Bart Eppenauer is Chief Patent Counsel and Associate General Counsel in Microsoft’s Legal and Corporate Affairs department. He leads Microsoft’s Patent Group which is responsible for the development and management of Microsoft’s worldwide patent portfolio which includes over 13,000 issued patents worldwide. The Patent Group at Microsoft comprises 120 patent professionals including 40 patent attorneys. Since joining Microsoft in 1997, Eppenauer has provided patent support for a broad range of Microsoft product groups and handled all aspects of patent-related activity including patent portfolio development and analysis, licensing, litigation, and client counseling. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Eppenauer was with the law firms of Leydig, Voit & Mayer in Chicago, IL, and Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City, MO. At both firms, he concentrated primarily on patent litigation, and also handled patent prosecution, client counseling, and various intellectual property matters. Eppenauer holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a law degree, with distinction, from the University of Iowa.

J. Bradford DeLong
Brad DeLong is a professor in the Department of Economics at U.C. Berkeley; Chair of the Berkeley Political Economy major; a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research; and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
From 1993 to 1995, DeLong worked for the U.S. Treasury as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for economic policy. During this time, he worked on the national budget, the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, the North American Free Trade Agreement, macroeconomic policy, the unsuccessful health care reform effort, and many other issues.
Before joining the Treasury Department, DeLong served as an Associate Professor at Harvard University and Assistant Professor Boston University, as well as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at M.I.T. He has written on, the evolution and functioning of the world stock markets, the making of economic policy, the changing nature of the American business cycle, and the history of economic thought. He holds a Ph.D., an M.A., and a B.A. summa cum laude from Harvard University. |

Andrew T. Guzman
Prior to joining the Boalt faculty, Andrew Guzman was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Chicago Law School and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Juan R. Torruella, Chief Judge of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1996 and was commentaries editor of the Harvard Law Review. He received a doctorate in economics from Harvard University during the same year.
Professor Guzman's research interests are focused on international trade and international law, both private and public. He teaches courses on contracts, international trade and international business, among other subjects.

Douglas L. Hendricks
Douglas Hendricks is a commercial litigator in the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he is the head of the Trademark Practice Group. Hendricks also practices in the area of professional responsibility. He has advised both law firms and clients in disputes arising out of legal engagements, and has served as an arbitrator in fee dispute cases. He is the Chair of Morrison & Foerster’s Risk Management Committee and the firm’s Associate General Counsel.

Robert H. Lee
Robert Lee has been Executive Director of Legal Forest since its formation in 2001. He has been a business consultant and attorney in Silicon Valley and other areas of the
Pacific Rim for the past decade, working with Fortune 500 corporations and venture-funded start-ups. He has worked on dozens of US patent applications in software, EE, semiconductor processing and the life sciences, and has experience working on technology transfer in the private sector and with universities, including Stanford and UC Berkeley.
Lee has worked as a patent attorney at a top Silicon Valley general practice and a top Silicon Valley patent boutique law firm. He has also served as VP of Operations at Intellevate, an LPO company with offices in the US and India.
Lee has a JD/MBA (law and business) from UC Berkeley and a BS/BA (biochemistry and philosophy) from Yale University.

Madhuri M. Messenger
Madhuri M. Messenger joined Boalt Hall in 2007 as the founding executive director of the Institute for Global Challenges and the Law. With a record of involvement in international legal work, Messenger has experience with development NGO’s, international organizations, and a law firm.
At the American Bar Association’s Asia Law Initiative, Messenger’s work focused on promoting the rule of law in developing countries. In that capacity, she managed an extensive rule of law program in the Philippines, administered a judicial integrity project in Indonesia, and worked on a regional anti-corruption program.
Prior to joining the ABA, Messenger worked at Global Rights, an international human rights NGO, and Dechert, LLP. In addition, Messenger has held fellowships at the United Nations and Human Rights First, through which she has done in-depth studies of peacekeeping.

Scott Rickman
Scott Rickman is Associate General Counsel and Director of Litigation at Del Monte Foods. Rickman has managed Del Monte’s litigation since 1999. He developed the e-discovery program, policies and procedures at Del Monte. He is currently managing e-discovery in multiple class actions related to a national pet food recall earlier this year. He is a frequent speaker on issues relating to food law, litigation and e-discovery.
Prior to joining Del Monte, Rickman was an associate with the San Francisco law firm of Gordon & Rees from 1994-1999. Scott was an associate with the law firm of Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1990-1994.
Rickman received his JD (cum laude) from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1990. He received a BA from the University of Michigan in 1987. He served for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was selected as Marine of the Year for the Marine Barracks, London, England.

Mark Ross
Mark Ross joined LawScribe in 2006 and is regarded as a leading authority in the field of legal outsourcing. Ross was a partner at the UK Firm Underwoods Solicitors. He is currently, Chair of IAOP’s Legal Outsourcing Chapter.

Selvyn Seidel
Selvyn Seidel practiced law, for over 40 years, with experience representing business entities in diverse projects in the United States and abroad. Beginning January 1, 2007, Seidel established an organization of international professionals, Burford Advisors LLC where he serves as Chairman and President. Previously, he was a senior partner at Latham & Watkins, a leading international law firm. At Latham, Seidel was at different times the Chairman of its International Practice and the founder and Chairman of its International Litigation and Arbitration Practice. He is on the Board of Advisors of GPW, a London based corporate intelligence entity with offices in New York and with international operations and reach.
He was for ten years an Adjunct Professor at New York University School of Law. He is currently an Alumnus Lecturer at Linacre College, Oxford University.
Seidel graduated from the University of Chicago (1964, BA economics), the University of California (Berkeley) law school (1967, JD California Law Review), and the University of Oxford (1968, Dip. Law, Linacre College).

Rahul Singh
Rahul Singh is currently assistant professor of law at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore (NLSIU) where he teaches Competition Law & Policy, Regulation, WTO and Jurisprudence. He also lectures as a visiting faculty at numerous other places, including, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB). He is a member of the Competition Commission of India’s Advisory Committee on Regulation. He is also a consultant for several corporations.
Singh graduated with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Harvard Law School where he was a Myer Dana & Etta Dana Scholar. John Steele
John Steele is the Ethics & Conflicts Director and Special Counsel for Fish & Richardson P.C. He is responsible for a variety of firm-wide issues, including conflicts of interest, ethics particular to IP law practice, and the design of appropriate alternative dispute resolution for client disputes. Steele is also a lecturer in legal ethics at University of California, Berkeley School of Law (1997-present), Stanford Law School (2003), and Santa Clara University School of Law (2002).
He is currently a member of the American Bar Association (Intellectual Property Law Section’s Committee on Professional Responsibility), Santa Clara County Bar Association (Professionalism Committee), Santa Clara County Bar Association Fee Arbitration Program, Bar Association of San Francisco (Ethics Committee), and Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers.
Steele holds a BA from Bucknell University, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center. He has been admitted to the bar in California, all United States District Courts in California, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and United States Tax Court.

Eric Talley
Eric Talley, Professor of Law at UC Berkely, School of Law, is a leading authority on corporate law, and law and economics. In addition to teaching corporate law, he serves as faculty Co-Director of Boalt's Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy.
Previously, Talley was a professor at University of Southern California Law School, where he also held the Theodore and Ivadelle Johnson Chair in Law and Business in 2005. Talley led two of the law school's research centers and was director of both the USC Center in Law, Economics and Organization and the USC/Caltech Olin Center for the Study of Law and Rational Choice from 2002 to 2004.
Talley has also taught both law and economics classes at Georgetown Law Center, the California Institute of Technology, the RAND Graduate School, and Stanford University. He has served as senior economist at the RAND Corporation's Institute for Civil Justice, as director of the LRN-RAND Center for the Study of Corporate Ethics, Governance and Law, and as interim director of the RAND-Kauffman Foundation Center for the Study of Small Business Litigation and Regulation.

Ken Taymor
Ken Taymor is the executive director of the Berkeley Center for Law, Business and the Economy. Prior to joining Boalt, Taymor practiced law for over 20 years in San Francisco. His professional experience includes organizing, structuring and financing private companies, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, intellectual property licensing and telecommunications. He has also represented non-profit and for-profit developers of mixed use community redevelopment projects. From 1988 – 1993, Taymor was Special Assistant for Business, Finance and Real Estate to the San Francisco City Attorney.
Taymor has been a lecturer at Stanford Law School and the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a visiting professor of law at UCLA Law School. He is currently Chair of the Dean’s Policy Advisory Council at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health.

Laurel S. Terry
Professor Laurel Terry is internationally known for her expertise in the field of legal ethics and the international and inter-jurisdictional regulation of the legal profession. She teaches Professional Responsibility, Civil Procedure and a seminar on Cross-Border Legal Practice at the Penn State Dickinson School of Law.
Recently, Terry has been participating in, researching and writing about issues related to the application of the World Trade Organization’s GATS agreement to legal services, the application of EU competition policy to legal services, and the effect of the Bologna Process on legal education. She serves on the International Bar Association’s WTO Working Group and has made presentations to the WTO and United Nations on the IBA’s behalf. She also provides the content for the ABA GATS-Legal Services webpage, is a special advisor to the ABA Task Force on GATS Legal Services Negotiations, is vice-chair of the Transnational Legal Practice Committee of the ABA’s Section of International Law, and is a consultant to the Conference of Chief Justices’ International Agreements Committee. Terry is a member of the ABA Joint Committee on Lawyer Regulation, the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Legal Ethics Committee, and principal editor of The Pennsylvania Ethics Handbook. |
