Changes in society's definition of family have added new complexities and twists to estate planning. Join Boalt Lecturer Michael Ferguson '68, founding partner of Ferguson & Berland, for a practical discussion about new developments and strategies in estate planning and probate law.

 

 


Michael Ferguson '68 is founding partner of Ferguson & Berland, a Berkeley-based practice he established in partnership in 1974 with fellow Boalt alum William Berland '68. Michael is a certified as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate law by the State Bar of California and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council. He has served as chairman of the State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and as chair of the State Bar’s Estate Planning, Probate & Trust Law Advisory Commission. He has been recognized by the State Bar of California’s for his commitment to its specialization programs and in 1999 received the Bar’s annual C. Rick Chamberlain Award. Prior to establishing a private practice, Michael was board chairman and general counsel for the Rockridge Health Care Plan.

Michael has taught and lectured extensively. He taught business law in the Executive MBA program at St. Mary’s College for six years. Since 1994, he has been teaching the estates and trusts course at Boalt. Michael is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. While at Boalt, he was note and comment editor of the California Law Review and Order of the Coif. He also attended Berkeley as an undergraduate and earned a B.A. with honors in Economics.
